I need to hang some doors (or find someone who can hang some for me) but the doorframes in my flat seem to be alot slimmer than the two standard door sizes available. We've been told that moulded doors (the cheaper option of course) can only be planed for up to 5mm each side yet we need to plane up to 25mm off each side to get them to fit. Is there any cost effective option other than buying full wood doors and planing them (about twice the price)?? |

Hi there
The 2 standard door widths that I am aware of are 33 inch and 30 inch. Narrower widths are available but usually only as either a) one half of a pair of double doors or; b) lightweight internal doors for wardrobes etc. Even "solid wood" doors are not going to be easy to reduce by as much as you need (partly because they rarely are "solid" unless you spend mega-bucks -they are more likely to be, say, pine with a laminate finish and you will uncover the joints in the construction by cutting so much off). I can have a better look later on for the actual doors, but I'd be happy to help you hang them as you aren't too far away from me and someone was kind enough recently to show me how to do it! If you are in the mood for online searching yourself, I recnetly bought a brilliant external door at a DIY place beginning with "W" and ending in "ickes"... Cheers
